I found out that playing AVI file doesn't always enable Video Decoder Configuration (part of ffdshow). Like when I play one movie (AVI) Video Decoder got enabled, when I play some different title (AVI) Video Decoder is not enabled then. I don't understand why it happens that way. What depends on what in this case ?

BTW: If I'm already here let me put my another question related to this one somehow.
Is it possible to enable ffdshow in playing MKV file ? I tried to do this and it didn't seem like. Maybe you guys know better.

Check what video codec the avi or mkv contains(mediainfo) and then enable that encoder in ffdshow video decoder configuration. You can also enable ffdshow for all video by enable the raw video decoder. And in Windows7 you also need to use Preferred Filter Tweaker to disable windows7 builtin decoders.

You may also need to installer a splitter, like the Haali Media Splitter, for playing MKVs. Not sure if that's fully compatible with Win7/64, though (I believe it's only 32-bit, unfortunately). If you're concerned about having to enable codecs in ffdshow, you might also try a player that isn't as dependent upon the codecs installed, such as MPCHC, or VLC.

Yes, it is compatible with Win7/64. I had to install this to play my MKV movies in WMP, however, I could play my MKVs in MPCHC without Haali Media Splitter.
