I tried to add english subtitles to movie that was originally an avi file. I converted the file from avi to mpeg-1. I then I authored the mpeg-1 file with TMPGENC dvd author. Now I have all the neccessary files to follow the guide given here: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=598&howtoselect=5;20#598

obviously I was unsuccessful. I think the problem lies with the original avi file. I say this because in the guide and also another guide, it states that after you demux the video you will get a m2v, audio, and subtitles from the movie. After I demuxed, all I got was the m2v and audio files; the swe subtitles did not demux from the movie. I also tried to see if the swe subtitle would be able to be extracted using DVDShink. But in subpicture part of dvdshrink it says, "no subpicture streams." I opened the ifo file from the movie in ifoedit and it also states, "subpicture not specified." But if I play the movie, the swe subtitles are there. So I get all the way down to the "Strip it" part in ifoedit; The vobs are created in my final destination folder. Here's where the problem starts, after all the processing ends with the vob parts, the guide states "The VIDEO_TS.IFO will automaticlly be created. They weren't, as a matter of fact, after I clicked OK after the last vob process was complete, the program locked up; It did this every single time I attepmted to add subtitles.

I will attempt to take a short piece of another movie and test it to see if it works with another movie file. This will tell me if there is an error in something I'm doing or not doing, or if the problem is the original avi file.

    Please Help!

  2. The original AVI file probably has a permanent swe subtitle which means it is not considered as a subtitle but as a part of the movie itself (not removable)
