  1. Hello I just ordered a Signvideo DR-1000 image enhancer and was wondering if anyone has experiance using one of these for vhs to dvd transfer? I am using a setup like this Vhs hifi-Datavideo TBC 1000-Sima scc2 color corrector-Panasonic dvd recorder. I am wanting to use it to enhance my picture and sharpen the image up a bit and to use the noise reduction features on it and was wondering would anyone have any advice as to where I should put it in my loop of things? Do they really work good and helping in that area of sharpening the video with noise reduction?

    Thanks

Sorry that I don't have any info on the Signvideo DR-1000 but you will get great answers from gshelley61 and lordsmurf if they decide to pop up here.

  4. The DR-1000 is a great piece of gear. It's especially useful at sharpening and bringing out the detail from decent video sources. My signal chain is usually Source-->DR-1000-->Proc Amp-->DVD Recorder. If you are using a TBC for tape sources, that would have to be first, of course.

When using the DR-1000, be subtle with your enhancements at first and make some test recordings. Generally speaking, you will apply Sharpening before Detail (although this is dependant on the source). Watch out for excessive ghosting, grain or an unnatural appearance. Sharpening defines the edges of objects in the video image, while Detail brings out the smaller aspects of the image (like textures and fine lines). The Noise Reduction feature (Core, Black) only works on reducing enhancement noise... in other words, if you don't apply Sharpening or Detail, they don't do anything.

The DR-1000 comes with a pretty good instruction manual that goes over how it is used. Have fun with it!
