  1. Hello all, first post,

Last weekend I videod my mates wedding using his parents new Cannon 630i digital camcorder. I now want import that into my G4 (digital audio edition) and edit it using Final Cut Pro.

I have read on the web that Final Cut operates through firewire from the camera. According to the Canon web site the camera comes with a USB cable (which I haven't got but can get hold off).

So my question is can either Final Cut work with a USB cable or if I buy a firewire cable will this camera work with it? I am pretty sure it will but I want to be certain.
    Thanks Alan

  2. don't transfer your video using USB period. You will lose timecode- Basically, look to see if your camcorder has a firewire out (it will be 4 pin) That is the correct way to get video from a camcorder to a computer digitally. The USB option isn't cool. I would go with firewire unless you can't (not sure about that camera).

That camera has Firewire. Get the 4-pin to 6-pin Firewire cable to connect it to your Mac.

If I am not mistaken I thought that the usb was only to transfer still pcitures from the memory card

The powerful Canon 20x zoom lens is ideal for recording even distant subjects. The USB interface and powerful Canon software makes it simple to transfer still images from the memory card. A high resolution 800k pixel CCD and DIGIC DV signal processing ensures high quality video and still images.

    That doesn't sound very likely, but it's possible I suppose ... (?)

its got a differnt pin config so usb and firewire arent compatible (also it wont fit)
    http://www.networktechinc.com/technote.html
(4 pin version of firewire doesnt carry power like the 6 pin version does and usb carries 5v power through one of the 4 pins)

Also the usb is only for transferring the still images from the memory stick with that particular camera (As far as I know)
