  1. I just rcvd a wintv go (44801) PCI card.

Apparently it doesn't support stereo?....yet I see a 2 channel phone plug for for line in and out.

What is the deal with this?....do any of the 878A based cards let you capture in stereo?

    THANKS

I wouldn't even worry about it. I cut my teeth on capturing with that puppy.

    1. Capture normally, including your mono audio input.

    2. Use Virtual Dub to save the audio as a wave file.

    3. Load the wave file into Gold Wave, copy the channel with the audio. Mix it with empty channel and save under a different file name.

    4. Load the new audio file into Virtual Dub with your original captured video, save under a new file name.

Voila! your captured video now has stereo.
    Hello.

  3. Well, I'll have to play around with that it appears.... or dump the card for a something stereo capable.

I had finally made my mind up on a card after alot of effort (878a and the wincap driver) and now I run into this.

    Thanks....(I think).

Are all the 878a cards just mono?

  4. I now see that it's the TV tuner is mono only so I'll assume I can get stereo to the sound card from a VHS player and perhaps my capture program can take it from there.

This whole thing is a nightmare.....now I'm stuck with a card that only captures AVI? In low resolution?

Is that where the wincap drivers step in.....do they truly turn this thing into something credible?

Looking at the specs I just saw on Hauppagues site, it's junk.

Use Virtual Dub to try and capture. Also, you may want to check the Conexant filters as well. I used this card until I got a pass thriugh camera.

  6. Ok.

I'll follow your advice and download the virtual dub.

I did see that with the btwincap drivers I can get better resolution out of this card.

I'll try all this but if it's a hassle, I'm going to start all over and go for a state of the art "on the fly" mpeg hardware solution.....like the
    DAZZLE 150?
or the PVR 250 and 350 cards?
    (sell me)

I may just get this DAZZLE 150 after some more research.

    This is driving me crazy.

WinTV go is an excellent card.

Don't use the tuner . Use an external tuner, like a VCR for example.
Many entry cards have issues with the built in tuners regarding the audio (mono).

So, capture the audio through the line in of your sound card and you gonna have stereo

For win2k / winXP use virtualvcr to capture.
For w98se / me use virtualdub to capture

Realtime mpeg 2 capture with wintv go is possible with mainconcept 1.4.2 . Just remember to set the video input the higher you can( minimum 720 x 576/480), so not to deal with the statering problem at the bottom of the screen. The mpeg 2 output can be anything (example: 352 x 576 at 2800kb/s looks excellent)

And a friendly advice: It seems that you are not for this hobby: Better buy a DVD standalone recorder.

  8. The wincap drivers are an obvious enhancement to this card so I'll get the virtual vcr and mainconcept and put it all together.

I like to economize when it comes to software...was hoping to use my Nero express to capture.

Actually, I'm in electronics (I'm a capable design engineer and do a bit of assembly language)....so when it comes to answers with "finished product" and technique(s)....it's not really that complicated. It's really just get A and B and C and "do this".

Let's face it, it's the nature of alot of these forums to not volunteer to much info at once......(always keep them guessing).

I'm not complaining....this is a tremendous resource and I'm very thankfull for the assistance....I just have a problem with "unfinished business".....(impatience).

I'll see if this setup does a reasonably good job but I think the "on the fly" mpeg conversion makes alot of sense.....(I only have a P3 733 on this video machine).....we'll see.

    My next challenge.......P A L

    with a p3 @ 733 forget mpeg 2 realtime capture!

    Maybe VCD...

Unfortunatelly, this hobby is for very patient people. Really, if you don't have the free time to read and test yourself all this, better buy a DVD Standalone recorder! 2 Hours per DVD isn't bad at SVHS quality...

Nero express for capturing, is like window's notepad for typing.....

PS: This hobby also needs cutting edge PCs. A duron 1200 is the minimum I could imagine with today's standards

  10. Well, I'll get a PVR series card or a Dazzle...WHICH IS WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

    119.00 for mainconcept+40.00 for the card+this+that+searching

    =waste of time

    over and out.
