I have a video file ready to be burned to a DVD in an external USB2 HD. Can I burn it to a DVD directly from there or is it advisable to have the source file in an internal hard drive? Thanks.

I would guess you can as it should be able to keep up with the data transfer
what speed is your burner and have you not got a DVD-RW to try it anyway?
