I've been learning a lot of recording/authoring info through massive trial & error - and help from this forum (even though much of what I read, I have no idea what's being talked about! ). I've gotten past some rough hurdles, but a new one recently came up.

I transferred video from a DV-Video Camera, via composite plugs, and captured just fine - put lots of pretty submenus and custom backgrounds, etc! I was soooo proud! But, on playback, I notice that whenever I had moved the camera, the movement made the subjects blur - almost digitize - until the camera stopped. Movement of the subjects themselves didn't cause this to happen, just times I had moved the camera, such as when I panned the performers or audience that I had recorded.

I am sure it has something to do with my capture settings, - speed rates or something - because the VHS tape that I made from the same DV recording has no blurring in it, so the problem's not the original recording. Since I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing with bit rates, etc - and none of the tech schools around here want me enrolling in just one class instead of the entire block - could someone give me an idea about good bit rates and other settings to capture DV video for authoring & burning? Also - I captured directly to mpeg2. Should I have captured to AVI or mpeg1 and then converted instead??? AVI is such a large file and there were lots of songs to author, render, & burn!!!

Geez! I wish some of you could come to my town and give a short seminar! As one who learns best by "seeing & doing", rather than by reading, I'd be the first to sign up for the class and be waiting for you when the doors opened!!!!!
