Delete the preferences files for those apps then relaunch them.

  3. I am having the exact same problem as you. I tried deleteing the preference files but couldn't find any on my computer. I am running OS 1.3.4 and all the DVD backup software I have tried, (MactheRipper, DVD Backup, Fast DVD Copy) has encountered the same problem. Did you ever get it resolved on your computer? A solution would be graetly appreciated.

  4. If those apps cannot make .plist files in Your Home/Prefs dir then try to repair permissions with Disk Utility and then try to launch the apps again...Also those apps trying to access DVD reader/burner in Your Mac and during that they quits...Maybe permission repairing will resolve that...

Try using the latest version of Stuffit Expander to uncompress their archives, and ensure that you don't have an older version somewhere that's automatically unstuffing archives when double-clicked upon.

  6. Thanks for the suggestions, but I still can't get any DVD bckup software to launch on my computer. I own a 800mhz eMac with a superdrive and am running OS 10.3.4. I've run Disk utility and fixed permissions and I have a new version of Stuffit. I've looked for preferences but there are none b/c the software won't even launch. I've deleted preferences from other software that may interfere with the superdrive and still nothing happens. Any more solutions?

Are you sure the archives are uncompressing with the latest version of Stuffit, and not an older one located on your hard drive somewhere? Try dragging one of the downloaded archives onto the latest version of Stuffit Expander you just downloaded. Failing that, you might try doing the following in the terminal:
    chmod 755
then enter a space, and then drag one of the problem applications onto the terminal window, and then hit enter. This might make those apps work if it was just a permissions problem from Stuffit.

As an aside, you can obtain MTR in different archive formats at these links:
