Hey guys,
I noticed that y'all are having some of the same troubles I have.
I have a TDK 840G (dual format) 8x, and I was using Memorex DVD+R ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... p;n=507846 ) but encountered an incompatibility problem with some of my dvd+r's not being compatible w/ the end user's standalone player because of the book-type setting being DVD+R and not capable of being changed, I was also having problems with the DVD+r's pausing and skipping about 15 into the movie and toward the end of the movie. I've since switched to Memorex DVD-R ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... p;n=507846 )
in hopes of getting better end user compatibility results as well as eliminating the skipping problem.
The compatibility issue is marginably better which I'm satisfied with since I'm not sure if the end users that had problems with the dvd+r's are happy with the dvd-r's, and because the dvd-r's are compatible with AS MANY end users as the dvd+r's. But the skipping problems still persist, and I'm just stumped. I tried upgrading the firmware to 1.04 then to 1.06, but when trying to solve the problem of the DVD+r's skipping I noticed better results with the 1.04 firmware version rather than the 1.06 version, so I un-installed the 1.06 and re-installed the 1.04..... After switching to DVD-R I have not tried the 1.06 firmware version.
I would greatly appreciate any insight into correcting this problem.
If it helps any, with the movies that skip near the beginning of the movie, I've noticed a small difference in consistency where the lead-in ends and the rest of the burn begins on the bottom of the DVDR as if the Lead-in doesn't fully connect with the rest of the burn. (I've learned to recognize what the lead-in is from making coasters that never finalized and comparing them to fully finalized and functioning dvdr's).
I am wondering if it is the media, the firmware, or possibly my burner.
BTW, I'm using CopyToDVD to burn and DVD2One to rip.
HELP PLEASE

I have a feeling that the Memorex DVD's are probably CMC mfg'd disks in which case they should be used for landfill. If they are Prodisc SO3's then they are not too bad.
If you are producing DVD's for other peoples usage (ie wedding disks, etc) then use DVD -R's for the best DVD compatibility. ('specially with older machines)
Use the best disks you can find. Apple, Fuji, Maxell
I have had a few problems (freezing / skipping) with Memorex (Prodisc versions) -
Problems with the prodiscs skipping? So me switching to ProDisc brand dvd-r's wouldn't help, thats what I was thinking about. I read alot of good reviews about them and saw that they are less expensive than the Memorex I buy now and am having problems with. Tell me what you think about the difference in the Memorex S03's and the Printable ProDisc brand.

You can't be sure of anything. Maxell has been known to use bad dyes on occasion as well.
