  1. i have a hard time figuring out which vobs are what. i tried the guide, but it doesnt apply to my bugs life dvd since there are two identical sets of vobs vts_03_1.vob and vts_04_1.vob that are each about 3 gigs.

they both look like the movie. im guessing one is wide screen and one is standard?

how do i save everything except one of these?

also in general how do u tell which vob files are menus, outtakes, extras, etc??

    thanks

  2. There are indeed two complete versions (WS and FF) of the Bug's Life movie on the Disney DVD. DVD Shrink (free) is an easy way for us PC users to extract and re-author the movie only (one or both versions) or copy the entire DVD on to one DVD-R. I backed up each version to a separate DVD-R at 100% quality (no re-encoding = identical to the original). I generally do not copy menus and extras in order to save space and maximize quality. If you want to save the whole disc, you'll have to compress it to fit on a single DVD-R. For Mac OS check out MacThe Ripper or DVDBackup 1.3 - I believe they do the same thing and are also free.

when i wrote that tutorial, i called it advanced because instead of typing a 1. 2. 3. i assumed most people attempting this project would know a lot of stuff already

    1. to view individual .vob's you simply drag them into Video lan Client and watch the file. then you make a note of what you are seeing to :color code: your file list and can continue with the tutorial

its really simple. In a nutshell you compress the movie to some number larger than 4.4 gigs such that when you replace the fullscreen movie files with empty .vob's you will manually bring the dvd down to 4.4 gigs.

if you have more ?'s feel free to post
but please read the tutorial its all spelled out.

  6. ok i read the tutorials and i like you site.

ive done several movies nicely using the methods you explained, however, ive hit a problem:

in the bugs life dvd, there are two full copies of the movie, standard and widescreen

standard is files VTS_03_1.VOB to VTS_03_4.VOB
widescreen is from VTS_04_1.VOB to VTS_04_4.VOB

total file size is under 4.4 GB so i'm not using dvd2onex.

when i replace the widescreen (VTS_04) files with dummy files, i get a nice copy of the movie in fullscreen.

BUT when i replace the full screen files (VTS_03) and load the dvd, the normal FBI warning plays and then when it gets to the menu it freezes and dvd player time jumps from 1 min or something to almost 6544333 minutes. all i see is a black screen and its stuck.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that VTS_03 come before VTS_04 so when i replace 04 everything is ok as its reading the menus from 03?? but i cant seem to figure it out. I hope you can help.

    THANKS!!
