Just started this "hobby". Recently got a new computer (see specs) for the sole purpose of converting my nearly 400+ VHS movies to DVD (getting cramped in my room )

Next step: to buy the proper video equipment.

I've been reading the guide at DigitalFaq.com for the playback hardware suggestions and it makes the suggestion of buying the JVC TB-1000. No problem there. Then is goes onto say to get a Super VHS player and says that the best ones have a built in TBC.

So does that mean I don't need to buy the JVC TB-1000 or is that in ADDITION to the JVC TB-1000? Meaning I have to get two units with TBC features on them... This doesn't make sense but I thought I'd make sure before I spent hundreds of dollars.

    Thanks to anyone/everyone who clarifies.

Thats correct. If you have a S-VHS VCR with TBC built in, then you don't need a seperate unit.

Not true. You don't need either of them. Step 1 for better quality is SVHS player. That should work most of the time. Now, for those with more money and higher quality demands, step 2 is a full TBC.

JVC HRS9911 or JVC SRV10U is best bet on VCRs these days.
Now, for TBC, DataVideo TBC-1000, not JVC.

Ok, thanks for the response. Now to clarify...
Step 1: Go for the SVHS
Step 2: Get the DataVideo TBC-1000 IN ADDITION TO the SVHS

So that means I will get better results/higher quality with both as opposed to just having the SVHS or just the TBC-1000. Thanks for the help!
