Problem with Sony DRU-510a - IDE Settings??

I have had my Sony DRU-510a for 6 months and up until now it has worked perfectly. It has suddenly stopped writing DVDs on multiple types of media that worked fine previously. I can write CDs and even read both CDs and DVDs, but it will not write a single DVD successfully. I even upgraded the firmware to 1.1a, still no fix. I have also tried using different burning programs (RecordNow DX, Nero, DVDXCOPY, etc.) with no luck. I now have reason to believe that the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers setting may have been changed. Can anyone with this burner or even another SONY model burner (operating as it should) please give me the setting they use for the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels (found in the Device Manager) under ADVANCED SETTINGS. I am wondering if the DMA or PIO settings need to changed. Also, I tried resolving the problem by using System Restore (Windows XP) and also the "Restoring to Last Good Configuration that worked", still the problem remains. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Test with Sony media.

You can also uninstall in control panel & restart your computer.

I can't confirm this but I have read that some people have had the same problem, and it's cured by using an 80 pin UDMA IDE cable.

still have the dru510a i bought last summer. just like you, it was working perfectly, till i saw some struggling problems a few months back. medias i usually burn at 4x, would burn at 2.4x regardless if i selected the option to record at 4x. then 2.4x would be 2x, then 1x. even if i'm successful in burning a dvd, it won't read in other drives. so i said forget it, i'm buying a 2500a, and while i wait for it to arrive, i decided to clean the lens on the 510a, when i was done, tried it out, works perfect like it was brand new. burns at 4x now.

taking apart the 510a is easy, just couple of screws and make sure the drive tray is ejected out first before disassembling it if you do clean the lens.

Easier to just use some compressed air & only put in clean disks. Be sure the computer is off before you use the air & open the tray then turn the computer off, so its open.
