  1. QUESTION LOCATED AFTER INTRO**************
I just bought some terrible Memorex DVD's from Amazon. I had bought a 25 pack from Best Buy that burned perfectly but these new ones (with the white, printable tops) are only burning successfully maybe 1 out of 5-10 discs. Of the ones that burned, all of them had both hard and soft errors when checking them with DVD X Rescue. I watched one and sure enough it skipped. I then checked another DVD that I watched that was on the "good" Memorex DVD's that ran perfectly and it had no hard errors, only soft errors. Finally, I checked a real DVD. It had no hard errors and only soft errors.

So, my question is, if a DVD only has soft errors does that mean it should play fine? The reason I ask is I'm backing up my entire DVD collection (200+ DVD's) and I don't have the time to watch each backup to make sure it is perfect. So, I assume that as long as the disc has no hard errors there shouldn't be any playback problems (in general). Is this correct?

That crappy software isn't using tech terms. Nothing you said makes sense. Scanit it Nero CD-DVD Speed or DVDINFO and come back.

Derry, incorrect, any dvd can have unrecoverable errors due to bad media or bad burn causing read errors which can be classified as soft error which isnt a proper term anyways and these dvds will be classified as coasters and dvds that are physically damaged(hard error) are coasters anyways.Dvdx is crap software to begin, just safer to scan your dvds with the programs lordsmurf recommended.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
