Yes. You just need to demux the audio from the video. Convert it to your desired output format, and then remux them together. TMPGenc's FILE->MPEG Tools will let you do this without re-encoding the video.

You can try AC3Machine, as it will allow VOB as a direct input, however, you'll need to join all of your VOB's into one file before doing this (give VOBMerge a try. It might be in the TOOLS section, or just search Google for it).

BeSweet does allow for DTS input, but I haven't tried that particular conversion of 6.1 DTS to 5.1 AC3.

I've also never tried AC3Machine with DTS audio, so I'm not sure it will work. Your mileage may vary...

    DJ,

I have TMPGEnc, still, as far as I realized, it doesn't recognize the DTS track muxed into a MPEG2 file, are you sure about that ?

I've tried demuxing DTS with it, it only recognized PCM and AC3 streams....

    Thanks,

  6. gitreel , soz bout that totally stressed out not even realized i had done that!!! doh.......!

this is from vob files not mpegs , can you rip the audio and then convert it to ac3 then put it back ???

or is it best to encode the dvd to mpeg then demux the audio , will it encode the dts???

i know i sound perhaps stupid! but i have encoded many films but i really have never messed about with audio and until now have never had this issue but as i only have a dts audio i would like to make this dvd into something i can watch AND LISTEN TO without the need of a dts encoder!

all input is very much appreciated.....

I would keep the sound as is. Demux the audio. Encode the MPEG, and remux , assuming you can find a tool that will multiplex DTS audio. I don't think TMPGenc will read DTS, muxing or otherwise...it won't even read AC3 without a plugin. If you can't find a tool that will handle DTS, then make sure you have the AC3 TMPGenc plugin if you plan to use AC3 audio with it.
