Hi all this is my first post since finding this place. After being burned bad by buying a Cyberhome 1500 recorder I am in the market for a new one.

I am thinking about the Maxent 215 for $249 at Costco or the magnavox mrv 64017 on sale for $269 at circuit city this week. I have read some about the Maxent but cannot even find a mention of the Magnavox anywhere. Is this a very new model? It seems like a solidly built machine. As I was looking at it I noticed it only had vents in the bottom. Is this a bad thing as I have read that some recorders get too hot.

    Thanks for any input.

  2. If you didn't like the CyberHome 1500, then I really doubt that you'll like the Maxent 215 which uses the same Cirrus Logic chipset plus a firewire input. The user interface is exactly the same as that of the CyberHome model:

  3. Our first tests reveal the recorder to be better than Sampo's first attempt at a DVD recorder.

What particular problems did you have with the Cyberhome ?

The problem with it is it gets power but nothing works. Once I turn on the switch on the back and the power comes on it says: ch 003 ME. Nothing will work either by the remote or by manually pushing the buttons.

  5. That sounds like a mechanical thing, rather than anything to do with the Cirrus Logic chipset, I have to say.

I assume you're trying to sort this out with Cyberhome, right ?

Those cheaper-part recorders all really suck.

Find a JVC, Pioneer, or LiteOn 5005 for best quality with the best lifespan.

Cyberhome finaly called today. They had me remove the cover and try a few things but nothing worked. They told me since it was past the 90 day full warrenty I could send it to them and for $89 they would fix it. I did not want to do this at first but I may since the prices seem to be falling quickly.
