  1. I have an AVI with a 780K/Bit quality. What I would like to do is take that AVI and reduce the quality to a bitrate of about 350K/bit quality to use on a Pocket PC. ANyone know how to reduce the bitrate of an AVI. THanks in advance.

  2. Virtualdub, with (just a suggestion) XviD, or DivX mpeg lowmotion codec.

  3. WHat is the best way to do it in Virtualdub? I have that so I should be able to do it with the right advice.

I will try and extract audio to a wav file. Then process the video and reduce the bitrate and merge the wav file. Is this the right way?

  4. If you don't want to modify the audio stream then I would use Virtualdubmod and just set it to "fast recompress." Then setup either Divx or Xvid with a video bitrate of 350 for both passes.

If you want more info on PPC video playback in general, then checkout the forums at this site.

  5. There is no need to demux the avi into separate streams.
Fast recompress is one easy way to do it.
Either way, virtualdub(mod) is the tool you need.
You could just leave audio intact, and simply re-encode the whole thing to whatever spec you need.

A simple way to do this is with Window's MovieMaker2. It's free and it comes with WindowsXP You can convert the AVI to a *wmv which should be viewable on a pocket PC
    This is so much fun!
