Good Morning America was talking about this a few weeks ago.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I've always hated that piece of shit song but I can think of much worse ones. Solid As A Rock by Ashford and Simpson comes to mind instantly.

Everybody cracks on Barry. I don't own any of his stuff but at least he actually plays a musical instrument, sings and writes alot of his own material. The musician side of me has always at least respected Barry.
He is one of the few of that type of music that I do respect....and he never got a nose job..

I shamefully admit to digging "Party All The Time" back in the day. I'll listen to anything Rick James produces.

  13. Speaking (well, actually writing) of Davids ...

Here's one that induced projectile vomiting in my youth -- "Don't Give Up On Us" by David Soul of Starsky and Hutch (original),

Oh, yeah -- and the ever nauseating -- "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks...

"We had joy; we had fun; we had seasons in the sun; but the stars we could reach were just the starfish on the beach"...

Help me! It's now in my head -- some put me out of my misery !!!!

crikey, just thinking about it makes me feel bad

  15. I guess that old WWF "Piledriver" album didn't qualify. Because if it did Koko B. Ware's title track from it would make "We Built this City" seem like "Hey Jude."

Yea, Solid As A Rock is really bad - so bad that it was completely forgotten

I can think of many that are far worse than what's on their list -

Wrap Her Up by Elton John & George Michael

We Got The Beat by the Go-Go's

    Cool Places by Jane Wiedlin

Family Man by Fleetwood Mac (yes, even the best bands have some real stinkers in there - credit goes all to Lindsey Buckingham)

Courtney Love's attempt at covering the song, Gold Dust Woman

a very very awful song by Soft Cell (not Tainted Love, though that one stinks too) from the early '80s that used to make me sick every time it was played on MTV...I think that one should be at the top of the very worst list.

Girls On Film and Rio by Duran Duran

(Keep Feeling) Fascination and Don't You Want Me by The Human League

Muskrat Love by Captain & Tennille

Material Girl and Lucky Star by Madonna

Church of the Poison Mind by Culture Club

    Homosapien by Pete Shelley

Oh Sheila by Ready for the World

Tiptoe Through the Tulips and On The Good Ship Lollipopby Tiny Tim (though most anything by Tiny Tim is bad)

Freedom of Choice by Devo (among others)

If they're gonna put Whitney Houston on their list, it may as well be that godawful cover of the Dolly Parton classic, I Will Always Love You - never did a song hurt my ears so much.

Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles

Language Is a Virus by Laurie Anderson

Long Time Gone by The Dixie Chicks (among others)

I Want A New Drug by Huey Lewis & The News

    Mr. Roboto by Styx

West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys

I'm Going Hungry by Peal Jam

Any song by the Thompson Twins

    ....and I could go on

I'm not even gonna touch Rap or Hard Core Techno, since I can't take enough of it to even know what's there.

Corey Hart does not belong on that list...it's too bad he's only remembered for that one song - he has a lot of good songs in more recent years.

I agree that We Built This City sucks, but not sure it's merits the number one spot ...that it came from a band that used to be very good, it does deserve a mention.

I Want A New Drug by Huey Lewis & The News?

I liked Huey Lewis & The News. They were real musicians playing real music....nothing offensive...nothing shocking. They reminded me of the J Geils Band. None of them were spectacular musicians but together they were pretty good.

They were ok - I was going by what was listed on that site (linked above)
They had Heart Of Rock & Roll on their worst list...I was thinking if they're gonna pick on one of their songs, it may as well be I Want A New Drug - lot of high notes in there
Kinda cheesy '80s stuff - I wasn't wild about the top 40 pop tunes in that era. The bands were cool but you'd never know it by what was on the charts.

There were worse songs, but I wanted to stick with what most people heard of.

ANY (c)RAP "song" is worse than We Built This City. I am not too familiar with Starship but it seems that people pick on certain songs and albums just because they have a dated 70s-80s synth sound. That does not make them bad songs. For example, I think "In Through the Out Door" is Led Zeppelin's second or third best album.

    Agreed but:
Don't get me started...RAP is not music...it is theft plain and sample....oops....simple.
The RIAA turns their heads on THAT thought don't they? Of course...it's making them money. Two-faced DICKS!!!!

    OK...I'm better now.

There are millions of shitty songs done by shitty artists as well as whole genres that I personally dismiss as c(RAP).

The worst song released by a good band or artist is probably Revolution 9 on the White Album. That thing is an abomination and basically an album killer (along with other filler like Wild Honey Pie).

Roger Waters' "Amused to Death" album also comes to mind as the most dissapointingly terrible album for me.

Songs that cause me to want to kill myself:

    All Britney Spears Songs
    All Jessica Simpson Songs
    All Christina Agulara Songs
    Any Limp Bizket Song
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
    Anything by Creed
    Slow Songs with Acoustic Guitar

Basically all the crap Clear Channel wants me to listen to, I don't like

Any WCW wrestling fan will remember the single "Rap is Crap" by the West Texas Rednecks. Curt Hennig (RIP) and Bobby Duncum Jr (?) and I think there was one more.
