I just rented a copy of "The Giants of Marathon", an old Steve Reeves movie from the 50's. The distributor is one Alpha Video at www.oldies.com
The quality is the worst I have ever seen. It's like they took an old scratched up VHS tape and copied it on a DVD recorder. It's full screen and has bars on the top and bottom of the screen. What a joke. It's much poorer worse quality than the first DVD release of Mad Max. Beware of Alpha Video!
It was so bad it was funny. I going to wait for it to come out on Blu-ray before I buy.

Retromedia is planning a new dvd release of this movie (release date TBA), using the original 35 mm widescreen print! It will be anamorphic, and should by all accounts be a very nice release. Check out Retromedia's website for more details! -
On the other hand, you can check out the Film Crew version, if you want to see the results of "so bad, it's funny".
