  1. Do motion menus always have to start at the beginning of the chapter or can you specify certain sections of the chapter ?

I am making a menu for a drama club play and the beginning of each chapter is dark since the lighs are off between songs.

I'd like to use the middle of the chapter for the motion menus.

If MF3 can't do this which DVD authoring tool can that also can encode the audio in AC-3 ?

  2. DVDLab will do it. You can specify the motion menu to start anywhere in the chapter, not just at the beginning. It will also take AC3.

  4. The beginning of the chapter is all you can get with motion buttons. This is one of the shortcomings of MovieFactory. I have a ton of clips that start with a fade-in from black, making for a very boring start to a motion button. My workaround has been to go into the clip and load a picture in the first frame set that to last 3-4 seconds. Of course, the first of the clip will not be motion, but it won't be a black hole. This is the best I've been able to come up with if or until I come up with the money to buy Workshop. If you could have still buttons, you can move the frame to anything -- but if you have still buttons, you have a still background. It's all or nothing at all, and that's the main thing I'm not happy with in MovieFactory. Sometimes a motion background with motion buttons is just a bit too busy. Still, this program seems to work every time (unlike some others I've used), so I just find way to work around the gaps as best as can.
