  1. Hey guys, I've done a few searches but haven't been able to find an answer, so I'm starting a new thread; If this is a repost, then I apologize.

I'm having a problem with my NEC-2500A...it worked find read/writing DVDs up until a few days ago when there was a power short in my apartment. For some reason my power supply failed and my computer was shut off DVD-R mid-write session. When I rebooted my computer, the drive was still recognized but it failed to read or write any CDs or DVDs, blank or not.

Is my drive pretty much fried? Or should I try reinstalling the firmware? Any help is appreciated...thanks guys.

  2. Try to shutdown and remove power from the computer first.
If it is still the same problem I would reinstall firmware next.

    Good luck!

  3. try to install it in a different computer...make sure is the drive the problem.

if no success, then flash it again with a new firmware...this should fix the problem.

if not.....bad luck, time for a new one.

  4. Hmmmm...I haven't had a chance to install the drive on a different computer but I did try reinstalling the latest firmare. Odd, the drive can read a CD-R disc I have, but it still won't read any DVDs I have.

Guess I should be placing an order for a 2510A soon

  5. I had one drive with the same problem. My 3 years old son just turn off the computer power while I was burning something. When I boot up the computer, the drive cannot read and write anymore. I will try to install on different computer and flash new firmware after work. Hope this bring back my dead drive..
