  1. I was given a DV wedding tape to edit that has been recorded in pal. Everything I have done to this point has been with NTSC. My trv-33 camcorder will play the tape no problem but when I try to capture the video nothing shows but a black screen. I use scenalyzer live to capture and Magix Movie edit pro and Sony screenblast for editing and have had no success capturing pal to this point. I know it is not the firewire port as I can capture NTSC and I have looked for settings to change in the programs themselves but no luck yet.
So if there is software that will work better for my problem or am I missing something with my current software?? After I finally do capture it I will be converting it to NTSC but that is a different problem

  2. Do you have access to a video clarifier?

I've seen posts reguarding Time Base Correctors that address the problem of stretched VHS tapes. When VHS tapes stretch i guess the data doesn't arrive in standard intervals.

I had to send back my Pyro DV converter because it wouldn't capture from old tapes that my home movies were on. Every post i could find on this forum suggested a Time Base Corrector could reestablish normal timing. Some post were able to get away with using Video Clarifiers that were made to overcome Macrovision.

If its just one tape i think i'd try to borrow one from someone. Couldn't hurt.

  3. Your camcorder might output an NTSC-50 signal when playing a PAL tape (ie. NTSC color encoding at 50 fps), and maybe your capture card doesn't support that format. I know that some PAL capture cards have problems with PAL-60 (which is what you get when playing an NTSC tape on a PAL VCR).

You probably need a PAL DV camcorder to capture a PAL DV tape through firewire.
