  1. I build new computers at a local store, and I've found that for some reason, in most AMD XP systems, you cannot use PowerDVD because as soon as you start to watch a movie, the computer reboots. You can open PowerDVD without a movie playing, but as soon as you click on any tools or options it reboots the computer as well.

Any suggestions? It's only with XP's, not P4s or Athlon 64's. WinDVD works fine. I've asked all the techs at work and we're all stumped
    whatever

Its opposite for me. Windvd either reboots or freezes my computer (making me hard reboot). Powerdvd works just fine and never causes a problem.

Sometimes i wonder whether it is a conflict between the two.

Never have found a solution, so i just stick with what works for me.

  3. Try changing video drivers and/or version of PowerDVD.
    This sounds like the common
problem of the video overlay functions not being compatable with AMD's MMX (not 3dnow) as seen in many video cards including ATI, Nvidia etc.

  4. I was wondering if you ever found a fix for this. I am having the same problem.

    WinXP Pro w/ SP1
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton, 333
    unknown RAM brand - 2700, 333, 512 MB
SOYO K7VMP2 w/ onboard audio, video, LAN, etc
    NEC DVD-RW model ND-2500A
    Quantum Fireball 60 GB
PowerDVD 4.0.0.2417 (lastest build, patched from www.gocyberlink.com)

I don't get a blue screen (STOP) message. Mine goes straight to POST/BIOS screen.

This was happening before I patched PowerDVD.

Tried updating audio/video/etc drivers from Windows Update, as well as from SOYO's Web site.

Replaced IDE cable with a brand new one.

I have all latest Windows Updates, except for a couple like Windows Media 9.

Booted to a CD and ran a RAM test...checks out okay.

Everything else works fine. I am able to rip and burn CDs and DVDs just fine.

DVDs play fine in Windows Media Player. Of course, it sucks compared to PowerDVDs functionality.

I've never had such a problem with Power DVD either. I'm running an AMD XP 2000 with Power DVD 5. I've been using Power DVD since version 3 back when I had an Athlon 700 slot-a CPU.

I agree with [b]offline[/i] in that it's probably the version you are using. I'm assuming you use the same version for your various installs.

I have used PowerDVD in several AMD systems from a 900MHZ Duron to the XP2500 I have now and have never had those problems. Several different MB's and video cards. I do use the old version 4.0 because I don't like the newer interface. Tried WinDVD a few times, didn't care for it either. I went to Zoom player for my laptop because it plays just about anything and is much more configurable.

  8. Sounds like a driver problem, so remove the video driver, install the VIA AGP driver, then reinstall video drivers. If its not VIA chipset i have no idea. Im using only XP cpus and PowerDVD is among the most used programs i have, never problems.
