  1. I tried a capture from one of the local cable tv channels here. I captured two hours worth with virtualvcr. Early in the movie, I got interference as you can see from the picture. About one and a half hours later, it cleared up. I changed nothing. I wasn't even in the room when it was capturing. I didn't notice this interference on a tv in a nearby room when I started. I've brought this up to people at work and they say it may be interference from a nearby transmitting antenna. Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, this is usual here in Hellas with the terrestal transmissions at UHF: It happens with the nearby stations.
Also, I 've seen this happen with analogue cable. It happens when someone use the reception cables for transmission

But the most usual thing for this, happens inside the jacks in the roof antenna. I don't know how to say it in English, but I'll try, I hope to understand: The center metal is in touch with the around metal. This mixed up signal goes to amplifier then and from there end ups like this on your TV.

So, check - if possible - the connections of your cable, not the ones on your TV, the other ones, outside your house. There must be a problem there.
Also check if there is an occasional TV link nearby your house. Those also make problems like those.
