  1. I ripped a region 1 DVD with DVD Decryptor using the guide linked from this site.

Then used DVD Shrink to compress it. I made sure it was on 'Region Free', just like all my other DVD-r backups.

Burned using Record Now Max with a Princo 4x DVD-r on an LG 4081b.

Burning went fine but when I go to play the DVD in any of my 2 DVD drives, PS2, or DVD standalone player, I get a 'this player is incompatible with the region markings of this cd' with a blue background.

The weird thing is that I have done the above steps exactly like that before with other region 1 DVD's and had no problems. The only different variable is the DVD title.

When I check the problem burned DVD-r with IFOedit and press 'region free', it says 'No RCE checking found in this IFO'.

Also when I check it with DVD Decrypter, it says 'Region, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 - RCE Protection: No : Copyright Protection System Type: None'

    So it SHOULD work right?

    Did I miss anything?

Sometimes, region encoding is found in more than one IFO.

    Try-

Load VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFO Edit, and hit get VTS Sectors. This will load all of the IFOs. Then region free each IFO file for each VTS.

  3. I just tried that.^^^

Each IFO said 'No RCE checking found in this IFO'. I saved the files into a new folder anyways.

So do you think this is the problem? Should I still go ahead and reburn? or will it just waste a disc?

Use a RW disc that way you won't waste a dvd-r.

  5. what version of dvd decrypter are you using?

some of the older versions had trouble picking up on RCE on some discs.

  8. i'd try ripping the discs again, this time in iso/read mode. mount the iso through daemon tools & then transcode it again.. then use powerdvd to see if it will let you play it without any problems.. if it doesnt, go through every ifo & bup with dvd decrypter and check it for rce.

    what movie is it?

  9. To save time, can I use the original rip files on my harddrive and turn that into ISO?

And what do you mean by transcode again?

You can, as a 1st step on DVD-RW deliberately create a Region 1 DVD only (or whatever region your DVD players are marked with) by checking such box on DVDSHrink and try playing that. Alternatively, on DVDSHrink, do not check region free; rather, individually check boxes for regions 1,2,3,4,5,6. There are distinctions between 'region free' (actually region 0), 'all-region' (1,2,3,4,5,6), and special regions (7,8); some DVD players are smart enough NOT to play region-free, or if 7 & 8 are also enabled on a DVD.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".
