Although computery it's more random so thought it belonged here. after finally getting my replacement hard drive i decided to get my mini computer back up and running - now we have an audio server i wanted to listen to some tunes!

So i took the case apart, stuck the drive in and put it all back together, found a windows cd, found a spare KB, mouse and a video lead to connect to my TV. hit the one switch - then remembered my mini computer doesn't have an optical drive. gah. so do i switch off this machine (in the middle of an encode, a download, and reading the forums) do i try and find a friend with a spare drive, or improvise?

i chose to improvise, i remembered my old DVD player had a normal IDE drive inside, so whipped off the cover and am currently installing windows using it!

Just curious, what's the weirdest thing you had to do to set up/repair your PC?

dont want to get off track here...but. In college we had bought an old standup Asteroids game. It conked out on us once and no matter what we tried we couldnt get it to work. I suggested we give it a bath. So,my buddy yanks out the motherboard and washes it in the sink! He let it dry and it worked!

I spent about two hours feeding the W98 cab files into a DOS6.0 computer with a zip drive through the parallel port so it would recognize a CD drive so I could fully install W98. Worked, though.

  5. quite a few years ago, i had a power supply go out on my computer.. but i had an old computer sitting around that was broken, but the power supply in it was either welded or stuck in, i couldnt get it out for the life of me.

so i pulled the dead power supply from my computer, set the other computer next to mine and hooked everything up.. used it that way for about 10 days until i got my paycheck.

redwudz, i used to have a PLP zip drive.. god those things were so ******* slowwwwwwwwww.

I used 95 since it was smaller, and then connected to a shared network CD drive.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I remember installing win95 onto my laptop from the CD-ROM in my desktop, using a serial cable
