  1. hey everyone, Im sill kinda new to torrents / burning etc, I wouldnt really consider myself a beginner, but more of a good novice user or so

anyhow, I'd be greatful , if anyone could shed some light to my problem
Ok, Ive got a prob, with media players. so 1st ler me list what systems I have ,

    Divx Player
    Video lan player [VLC]
    Win DVD
    windows media 9

an i know most of the time, when someone has video/audio/media paler problem, everyone wants to yell ''codecs''

well, Ive check ed my codecs situation an all seems to be inline,,
an once I explain my problem, i think [well I Hope]
someone may understand , an know my solution,

Ok, ive got a dvd-rom/r-rw drive, an a cd-r/rw rom,

an Ive also got alot of movie files, tv eps, etc.

    1 ST,,

well these files , an or dvd's will play with Vlc, an windows media player
    an they play just fine,,,

but when I insert a dvd in my pC's dvd-rom,
an when the WinDVD menu comes up ,, I dont get the menu or anything like that ,,

    it says,,
''CREATE OVERLAY FAILED , PLEASE ADJUST YOUR SCREEN RESOLUTION OR COLOR DEPTH , AN TRY AGAIN''

an I could understand if it were codecs , but even reatil dvd's wont play, thru win-dvd... but like I said ,, will, play thru VLC-or WMPlayer..

2nd, Now when I try to open a file w/ Divx player,
I get the following messages/ an it seems random,,
    sometimes it'll say

    'OPEN FILE FAILURE ;
    THIS FILE CANNOT BE OPENED;
    UNKNOWN EXCEPTION CAUGHT''

OR something about DirectX , i cant recall the actual word for word phrase.

So Ive went an un-installed win-dvd & divx, an also checked all my codecs'

I also went thru Gspot , just to be sure,,

an another thing that makes me think it's NOT a codec problem , an thats
because NO files or dvd's will play AT ALL!! ON EITHER PLAYER!,

BUT W/ VLC & WMP9 I CAN PLAY TYHE STUFF ALL DAY, ANY KIND OF FILE OR DVD,

an back when I first got into getting movies an stuff via the net, an watch on my PC , or to burn to cd-r or dvd-r, I had alot of probs outta my codecs,

an some files wouldnt play , but others would,
an this was for all the players I mentioned , [divx,wmp9,vlc,windvd]

Like it would play an Mpeg, but Not Avi, an stuff like that

So I went thru alot of stress over codecs for like 2weeks, but the good thing about that, is that I ended up learning all about codecs,
so thats why I dont think this has to do w/ codecs,

an if nothing else I should be able to watch a retail dvd on my pc, thru windvd,
cause thats the software disc that came w/ my dvd-rom,

So in a Summary,, any advice,

What should I do, where should , I look?

whats' up w. the screen reso, & color depth?

an if it is something to do w/ directX then how should i go about it?

I think most of my directX stuff was installed like thru PC games, an stuff,
I dont know much about directX,,

Is it possible Ive accidentail deleted some kinda DLL or something that
win dvd & divx player would require?

any advice or insight to this would be nice, an I'd be greatful,,

PS , an since posting this, ive checked my screen reolution & my color depth , an still no effect,
Bare with me please,,brain cellz not functioning at normal capacity!!
