A friend is looking for a DVD recorder to be used mainly to transfer his VHS tape collection to DVD. What's the best machine for this? I understand some machines do a better job than others. Cost is no object. Thanks for your help.

I like Panasonic as I can keep the Closed caption subtitle's. Sony and APEX are very good also. If these are store bought tapes you might have to get a box to rip out the copy protection on the VHS tape.

Just for transferring VHS-based video to DVD, any currently available on market DVD recorders are perfectly fine and will do their job.Originally Posted by ganymede
It is very subjective. I personally was unable to find the difference in recording capability and quality between my Panasonic and other brands such as Pioneer and Sony owned by some of my friends.Originally Posted by ganymede
