  1. From experience which is better for ripping DVDs and burning to DVDrs. From what I have done (which isn't much) it seems that clone gives you a bit more power, but Shrink seems to get better quality. But as I said before I am a newb and would like to hear comments from the more experienced people.

    Thanks,

    Todd

You could try InterVideo DVD Copy 2, possibly the cream of all the popular transcoders, it produces stunning results!

  5. I would have, but the company will not sell the program in a retail version even though they still sell the old version to unsuspecting customers and resellers, they ignored all my requests for information, the have had a number of reported bugs in other forums, and I won't deal with a company that won't even respond to my requests to sell?

What will support be after I buy?

  6. there´s a new program called dvd-rebuilder, it´s still in beta versions, but for me has working very well. As you said you are a newbie, maybe you could try with dvd shrink and clone dvd first to get use to the features and possible trouble whit some dvds, and then move to more advanced tools .

  7. Hello, There: All of these are good programs. It depends on what you want to do. To make 1:1 copies of DVD use DVD X COPY EXPRESS. Or if you want to experiment a little use DVD DECRYPTER to rip movie to the Hard DRIVE into a folder, then use DVD2ONE to shrink your full movie or just the movie to another folder, then use IMGTOOL CLASSIC to make an exact image file to another folder, then burn your DVD image file with DVD DECRYPTER to your blank disc. Excellent copies. LATER.

I just ripped a movie using dvddecrypter that gave me 7.45gb ISO file and 5kb MDS file. My problem is dvdshrink doesn't recognize ISO or MDS files. Where did I go wrong? What have I missed?

  13. you have selected the wrong settings in dvd decrypter, you need to rip it in file mode, not iso

  14. I try to answer directly to your question.

The program are the same if you will fully back-up a DVD single layer that fits on DVD-r.

    When you need compression:

    - DVDshrink give a little more quality with "deep analysis" and is good for full back-up or for film only with Re-author option that allows you to choose compression for each part of film.

    - Clone DVD2 is better when you need film with menù but without extra (features not available in DVDshrink).

Both this program are only transcoder so give good quality for low compression (i.e. up to 80%); if you nedd more but have few time Instant Copy give good results in 2 hours until 60%.
If you want the best quality or needs heavy compression (up to 30%) you need a real encoding process with CCE and a program like DVD2DVD-r o other similar gui for real encoder.

    Bye

Speaking of too many steps....Is there a reason you rip with DVDDecrypter? Why not just rip and shrink in one step with DVDShrink and then burn with whaterver buring software you like.

I have noticed that sometimes DVDShrink errors-out on some dvd´s copyprotection whilst DVDDecrypter has never done this to me...

That´s the only reason I sometimes go the way of ripping with DVDDecrypter...And ofcourse when I use CCE to encode a movie, but that´s another story...

Dr-x, I use dvddecrypter, because sometimes shrink will not copy the movie. It stalls in 5 or 6 places or quits completely.

  19. DVD Shrink can open iso images!! (3.6 version and above)

Just select File/ Open Disc Image and voila.

You can specify also an iso image as output, and select then Automatically record with DVD Decrypter.

    Its great.

    Regards.

Don't you mean 3.16 and above. There is no 3.6. Development of dvdshrink has stopped at 3.1. The programmer is now coming out with incremental versions to fix bugs in 3.1. He is up to 3.17 now.

That's the way I do it, but I rip with DVD Decrypter because I've never had even the least problem with it. To be sure I sometimes rip with DVDshrink, but not often. Just habbit I guess.
