  1. None, with the exception of the ultra high end model, appear to have it and I was wondering why. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I mean, how much could it cost considering even some of the really cheap models, the LiteOn LVW5001 for example, have it?

I understand there are some who have argued PQ is the same (some have argued it's better) using analog inputs but it still seems like a critical omission.

    Any thoughts on this issue?

Well, yes........just your basic DV Input (IEEE1394) that's typically used for the purposes of transferring footage from, say, a miniDV camcorder.

The Panasonic E60 had it but it was omitted from the E55 (probably the closest model in the new line to the E60). I've been trying to second guess Panasonic on this issue. Was this strictly a cost-cutting measure? Do they believe users can get the same (or better) quality by transferring their miniDV footage via analog inputs? Alternatively, did Panasonic do some kind of research which indicated most people were buying their recorders as a VCR replacement rather than for transferring miniDV footage?

  4. According to Panasonic's press release, they'll introduce the DMR-E65 model with SD slot and firewire input in June, which is a replacement of the previous DMR-E60:

It's also very likely that Panasonic will introduce the DMR-E95H which also has the firewire input as their top end model in summer.

  5. Oh, yeah. Thanks!

I recall reading that press release quite some time ago and obviously forgot all about the E65.
