  1. Picked up a Panasonic PV-HD1000 D-VCR at the Salvation Army today for $8.
I see that this was the bottom of the line D-VHS machine back in it's day and it has no S-Video in/out.
It does have Firewire in/out; does anyone know if this unit can out put analog tapes via firewire or is it only for digital recordings?

    Debating on keeping it...

    Thanks,

  2. No, the Firewire is strictly for D-VHS tapes. There is no encoder built in.

  3. That's what I was afraid of. My Toshiba DVD recorder won't even recognize it.
Is it worth keeping then? I have a JVC V101US and JVC S2901U and a semi-retired Panasonic AG 1960. I have a feeling the HD1000 isn't giving me anything special. I've never seen a home recorded D-VHS tape, so I doubt there is much call then.

  4. The reality is the PV-HD1000 is a standard consumer VHS VCR with D-VHS added on.

Yeah, I guess I'll see if it's worth putting on EBay or else donate it back. I have 3 standard issue VCRs with low mileage as back up for the others already.

NJRoadFan, I remembered from a previous post of mine that you troll the thrift stores like I do so I figured I'd grab it at that price before you showed up

    Thanks for the advice.

  6. I'd say keep it just to have a DVHS VCR. You can hook it up to a computer via firewire and view DVHS tapes using VLC with drivers that are built into Windows/OS X.
