I have a Sony DVD DW U10A drive which I am wanting to use to backup some of my DVDs. However, it states that I am using a mismatched media code when I use a application like DVD Decrypter, whilst DVD Shrink reports "the maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded" again presumeably as my drive is set to region 1. I play a variety of R1 and R2 disks, and have used all the chances windows gives you to setting the region of the DVD drive. I understand most people can flash the firmware to make their drives region free, however I have searched the net and am unable to find such firmware for my drive. DVD Region Free is running, and appears not to be making any difference.

Am I stuck with this issue and need to buy a new DVD RW drive?

    Thanks

I flashed my Samsung drive to make it region free and it didn't work....BUT....the new firmware "took" and it gave me 5 more chances.
If the drive is useless to you as it is then search out a hackware website and try one out. Cant hurt right....it's already broken technically.
Me personally....I would remove(disconnect) the other drive (the burner) first just to be safe.

OOps...just re-read...the IS your burner. Still....try a firmware hack. What can it hurt?
