I always use the re-author feature in DVD Shrink and only extract the movie and maybe another clip or two for my backups. I tried extracting only the 13 short films on Pixars Shorts DVD and it won't play in my two main DVD players. It says there is a region problem.
Strange thing is I have taken off all region restrictions in Shrink and the disc plays perfectly on our cheap $70 7 inch portable DVD players from Walmart.
Any ideas?

Newer discs may not like being ripped by Shrink. You may have to rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter (in which case you can use it's main movie mode to re-author), then use Shrink to tailor the results to your liking.

Are you sure that the disc you are lifting the shorts from are in the NTSC format? Some DVD players report a "region problem" when they are unable to convert the video from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa. Many "cheapie" DVD players convert automatically.
Also, DVD Shrink (as well as DVD Decrypter) have not been updated in quite some time. They are still useful for older titles, but tend to choke on new ones. DVDFab HD Decrypter is still contantly updated and is the new (and free) way to go. -
Comments on the DVDFab
Yes, the newer DVDFab is good for copy the latest protected movie. However, the new version is not good as the old version for copy the scratched disc. I still keep its 2006 version to deal with the scratched disc if the new version can’t handle. Don’t know why this feature has lost and when it lost. Probably only the author can explain it. -

Neither DVD Decrypter nor DVD Shrink have been updated in YEARS. Read that very carefully - I said YEARS.
The DVD Decrypter author was given an ultimatum he could not refuse to stop working on the program and turn over the source code to a company in the entertainment industry or he could face a ruinous lawsuit. Given the fact that somewhat similar programs, such as one by 123 Studios, have consistently lost in the US legal system (123 Studios was forced out of business as a result of losing), he had no choice but to comply. The author of DVD Shrink was hired to work for Nero and the program has long been abandoned. The only people who use either for decrypting are people who don't know any better or morons. Let's be nice and assume that the people in this thread are in the first group.
DVDFab is your best choice for decrypting. It is kept up to date and it's in a country that is far beyond the reach of the MPAA and the US legal system. -
