  1. I have made several backups of DVDs into VCDs. I just got a DVD burner about a month ago, and I cannot seem to be able to backup. I have a micro advantage DVDRW+/- that I got as a birthday gift. I have tried both + and - discs and none of them will play in my stand alone Apex AD-500w DVD player. I have DVDx, Smart ripper, Copytodvd, Instantcopy, DVDtoAVI, TMPGEnc, DVD decripter, Easy CD creator 5 platnum, and VCDeasy. I have tried using all of this software and tried to follow the guide "How to copy any DVD to one recordable DVD" but have had no luck. I made a backup of one of my movies using this software, and the methode in the guide. However, after about 5 minutes of playing, the movie frozze.

My question is, and I know that there are many ways to do this and everyone has thier own ideas, what would be the simplist way, that is to say a method that is easily learned, to backup my dvds. I am not interested in changing or altering anything unless I have to resize the movie that is. Time is not realy a factor either. If it takes a day to convert that is fine. As long as I don't have to sit at the computer the whole time.

I have been reading posts and guides and I cant find anything that helps. So I thought I would post this and hope for some help. Thanks in advance,

    Rizay

Yeah I would try DVDShrink. It's very easy for a newbie like myself. Also what media brand are you using? Has it worked in your player before? If not it's possible you just got media your player does'nt like. Also you may want to start out with a pack of +/- RW's to experiment with. Just make sure you find some that your player will play. I just picked up a 50 pak spindle of Ridata DVD+RW's for just over 50 bucks. Atleast then you can erase and reburn if you make a mistake or it does'nt turn out. Come's in handy!

rizay, check out the 'DVD Writers' column to the left: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDnameid=162&Search=Search&list=0#comments This should give you a better idea of the media to use. And as recommended, try DVDshrink. RW discs are also a good way to expirement. R- discs work best for me.

    Try

    1. Dvd Decrypter
    2. Dvd2One
    3. CopytoDvd

Also, you should look on the left hand side under dvd players and search for the dvd player that you have....You may find a comment mentioning media that has worked for someone else on that player....

It is probably just that your stand alone does not support DVDr playback, try someone elses DVD player.
