Hello VCD fans,
I am about to buy my next DVD player. I am looking for a player that can play DVD, CD, MP3, VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, and more. Which brand and model is the best? I think I should avoid the Sony and the Toshiba since they are pretty weak when it comes to SVCD. Also Samsung and Apex are unreliable brands. How about Panasonic or Pioneer? Your expert opinion is highly valued. Please recommend a brand and a model. Thanks in advance!

I've gone thru Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Hitachi and gave them all away or sold/returned them when I discovered this site and learned how to make VCDs and SVCDS.
In my humble opinion ... Pioneer rules !!!
Pioneer 343 and the Pioneer 444 (MP3 support) are the two I recommend without spending a fortune.

I definetly agree, Pioneer is the best. You may want to look into buying a multi-disc player if you're going to use it more for VCD's and SVCD's, since those are usually 2 or 3 discs for each movie. I'm getting a pioneer dv-c302d, which is a 3 disc changer, mainly for the convenience of not having to get up and change discs. I found one on ebay for $150. If you're not as lazy as I am, the pioneer dv-444 has most of the features you are looking for. Also, take a look at the comments for those players in the dvd players list on the left the screen. Nothing beats personal experience.

Panasonic (DVD RV31CA) cannot play SVCD but can play XVCD. XVCDisk at 352x480 and 2400 bit rate has about 40 min of a really great quality movie. If you gonna make CD by yourself that is good player. One more... this DVD player "made in Japan".

Looks like Pioneer DV-444 is highly recommended. Does anybody know about the Pioneer DVF-727, 300+1 DVD player? Would this model play SVCD, VCD, CD-R, CD-RW and more? Should I avoid this model? Anyone have experience on this DVD Changer?
Thanks again,

Or maybe Pioneer DV-440 is good enough without progressive scan. DV-444 has a bad review regarding its progressive scan. What do you all think about this?
