  1. My DVD player can play .avi files but no .ogm and no external subtitles. I understand that .ogm is just a container like .avi or QT. So it should be possible to somehow convert the .ogm to .avi without actually "converting" them in a matter of seconds, am I right? If I am, how can I do so?
And, is there an easy way to burn the subtitles into the movie, in order to get rid of the extra file?

    Thanks in advance

i dont know about a matter of seconds... but if MplayerOSX can play that file then you have a chance with any of the mencoder GUI's

.ogm is like an avi, but with Ogg audio. You'd need to convert the audio, because nothing supports ogg.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

  4. Unfortunately I don't really know much about this stuff. It would be helpfull, if you could get a little bit more detailed.
Galactica, could mencoder change the container without reencoding the video, just the audio?
Deadsierra, how excactly would you go about that?

    Thanks

4.**** Unclick ENCODE VIDEO from the as seen next to the VIDEO CODEC pull down menu.
5.**** Click on the AUDIO tab
6.**** Change the AUDIO CODEC to .MP2
    7.**** Set AUDIO BITRATE to 224 kb/s
8.**** Set SAMPELING to 48000 hz
9.**** Ensure ENCODE AUDIO is checked
    10. Set your save location and save the file as AUDIO_48KHZ.mp2

  7. ogmdemux (which is part of ogmtools) could be of some help, as well. It uses a CLI, so YMMV...

  8. Thanks for the instructions, but ffmpegx didn't work.
Yet ogmdemux did. I have now got three files: and .avi the .ogg audio and the .srt file. I guess I should not have a problem with converting the audio, but how do I melt all the files into one .avi for dvd player playback?

I guess I will find a way to do that. What I don't know is how to mux the video, the audio, and the .srt file together.

if you can get the audio over to .mp2, you can always make this into a dvd [which is easier to get subtitles into].

  12. Do you think there is also a way without having to reconvert the video?
