I am running XP on a Dell Pentium 4 1.9ghz, with 1 GB Ram.

I am having trouble with not enough power going to the serial port in order to power a baby programmer that programs microchips.

Is it possible to increase the power in any way by changing the settings?

What would I need to buy to increase the power?? Would plugging out some USB or firewire devices make more power available to the serial port??

  2. As in not enough power do you mean it cannot handle the current requirements, or is the voltage at not the proper level.

And dont lots of programmers usually have a wall wart transformer that you plug into the programmer to give it the juice it needs. For all the programmers I have used thats what they needed...... Mabye you overlooked the connection for a power adapter????

No it is sold as being powered from the serial port. It is only a small baby programmer. I haven't measured the power, but I believe it is a voltage thing. I have done everything right to make it work so I believe I have isolated the problem to the power.

Find and build the "Pony Programmer", just google and you should find it. You could also modify the programmer you have to take external power, or maybe power from the ps2 mouse port, or the USB port.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  5. If the serial port cannot supply the needed amount of current to the programmer, the voltage will drop due to the lack of current. Some computers simply don't supply enough power to the serial port. Your best bet is to connect an external power source to the programmer.
