    i have a windows XP pro machine that the 2 com serial ports went out. device manager said they were working ok but i couldnt get to work with anything. so i bought a 2 com serial PCi card and installed it. the machine named them Com4 and com5. i went into device manager and uninstalled the old com ports(1&2) then renamed them to com10 and com11. i renamed the new com ports 1 and 2. device manager shows the new com ports as 1 and 2. but when i use the ports the software says it cant initialize them. any ideas?

    You might try disabling the original two in your PC's BIOS.

    Might be useful to know what hardware/software you are using with the comm ports.

    Some call specifically to the port address and do not care about the labeling.
