    OK....TOTALLY Off Topic stuff here.
Can't seem to find much on the internet....or I am looking in the wrong places. There seem to be alot of music fans here so:

Can anyone confirm or deny the presence of Alex Ligertwood on any of the Santana Live DVD's that are out? I know about Sacred Fire but I had the CD and Ligertwood wasn't on much of it so I imagine the DVD is the same.
I'm a big fan of the Shango, Zebop Era of Santana with Ligertwood singing but I'm not finding any live recordings(either video or audio) from that time.
The live DVD from Australia that came out recently has possibilities of Ligertwood but of course I can find nothing as far as a band line-up for it anywhere.
    Any suggestions?
Thank You in advance if you can help.

I think you're out of luck, dude. The ONLY live recording I know of with Ligertwood is Sacred Fire. I'm a fan of the Zebop! album too. I've been a Santana fan since I was a kid and although I was extremely happy for Carlos with his meteoric comeback, I wished Alex could have been incorporated into it somehow. You should still pick up the Sacred Fire DVD even if you have the CD. What a great show that was.

    Thanks for the reply.
I was afraid of that. I also think Alex deserves to be a bigger part of Santana and it's history. Shango, Zebop, Marathon and....OK....Inner Secrets(without Alex) are my favorites.
There is a DVD out recorded live in Australia around the time Alex was still with Santana. I may have to check that one out a little further.....it has possibilities. If you know otherwise....please let me know..
I also have R.O.A.R. - a recording only released on vinyl of the Santana "band" without Carlos....but with Alex....pretty good. I say pretty good only because the keyboard player wrote most of the songs and he was into experimenting with programming more than actual PLAYING....and some other assorted Alex rarities.

    Thanks again for the reply.

No problem. I certainly didn't think I'd find another Santana fan here! The vinyl album you have sounds interesting. By the keyboardist, do you mean Chester Thompson? His keyboards were pretty spectacular on Sacred Fire. Just out of curiosity, what is probably your favorite track from the Supernatural and Shaman albums?

From Shaman....I'd have to say America or The Game Of Love are my faves. From Supernatural.....I'd go with Smooth and Primavera.
Neither CD is a "Play All" to me though like Shango, Zebop etc etc....those are classics to me.

The CD "Ceremony - Remixes & Rarities" is pretty good also...I previewed it the other day and plan on buying it this week.

Yep....Chester Thompson is "The Keyboardist" I was talking about.. Not to be confused with Chester Thompson the drummer of course..

  7. I think Abraxas is Santanas' best album,Supernatural is a close second..I could listen to either all day long.I was sort of disappointed by Shaman,I only liked 1 or 2 songs.

Abraxas and other older ones like Moonflower are still great....but I grew up listening to those. It's sort of like hearing Stairway To Heaven start on the radio....I reach for the radio to turn in off....I'm REAL tired of that one...

Just an update...and a bit more confusion. Here are pics of the two DVD's I have been trying to find info on:

The one on the left has this for a tracklist AND shows Ligertwood in a screenshot of the DVD. It say it was recorded in 1984:
    01. Well, All Right
    02. Persuassion
    03. Open Invitation
    04. Black Magic Woman
    05. Gypsy Queen
    06. You Know That I Love You
    07. Lightning in the Sky
    08. She's Not There
    09. Evil Ways
    With screenshot of Ligertwood

The one on the right has this for a tracklist:
Live at Sydney 1979 Marathon Tour
    Tracks Include:
    Marathon
    Well All Right
    Europa
    Open Invitation
    Tales of Kilimanjaro
Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen
You Know That I Love You
    Lightning in the Sky
    She’s Not There
    Evil Ways

The tracklist (Kilimanjaro) is confusing for the year this says it was recorded....the plot thickens.

    1 hour of video....

    Size: 2.206.433.280 bytes

    Do the math...

Looks like I bought my first pressed bootleg DVD.

It IS Ligertwood on it though...other than that.....it pretty much blows. It looks like it was a live TV broadcast a LONG time ago. Throw in the PAL to NTSC conversion AND the fact that it probably came from a VCD...lets just say the "far away" shots are a bit fuzzy to say the least....and I swear the audio/video sync goes out sometimes too.

    Live and learn I guess.
