  1. Any Ahead Nero users out there build a DVD (NeroVision Express2)
with ac3 for the audio? On two computers with different operating systems
I get the source clip's left audio channel coming out both the right
and left speakers, when I play the Nero encoded DVD video.
The original right channel is completely gone.
Most of the time the two channels are pretty similar, so you have to
listen carefully, or, use a clip with obviously different right and
    left channels. Nero 6.3.1.6 NeroVision Express2 2.1.2.0

    Am I crazy?

  2. You are not - because I experienced the same behaviour. I only get monaural sound out of both channels when I encode with ac3 dolby settings.

The other problem I have is, when I choose "Stereo" encoding instead of "AC3 Dolby", I get a very poor encoded sound which has alot of distortion especially on high frequencies above 10khz. If I put a lowpass filter into the audio signal (can be done with my soundcard), the audio gets encoded correctly, but it sounds very bad as well since there are no high frequencies.

Basically I tried everything to get the audioencoding to work, but without luck so far. Also I tried version 2.1.0.8 as well as 2.1.2.0 - both have the same problem.

    Anyone has any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    -Malte.

Yes. Quit struggling with buggy software! 8)

  4. Its worse than mono, as the right channel is just totally gone,
and replaced with a copy of the left channel.

Just today, Ahead reported that they can reproduce the problem,
and will fix it in the next release. I don't know about the high
frequency problem, though. For burning DVD's I only saw ac-3
    and LPCM as audio options.

This kind of bug is worse than a burn that fails, because you
can think things are fine for several burns... then discover
things are not as they seem.

  5. Why do people PAY to do beta-testing for Ahead? Its well known that they always release untested programs, and been doing it for years. Other software companies call those things beta, Ahead just increase a number and want money.

  6. Hmm, that really odd. I see only ac-3 and Stereo as audio options when I capture in PAL mode. When I capture NTSC, I can choose between ac-3 and LPCM. LPCM is the only working option right now for me, but its limited to NTSC. :-(

  7. For Nero, you don't have to pay to be a beta tester...
they let you use their program free until a certain date.
After that, you have to wait for the next version. So
your cost is limited to your time, and energy, but not
    your dollars.

Now Roxio is different. There, you have to pay to beta
    test.

As for LPCM, ac-3 and Stereo, its typical for NTSC to
have ac-3 and LPCM, and PAL to have LPCM and stereo.
The problem with LPCM, however, is its size. LPCM
can take more than a GB to do what the other 2 can
do in 240MB. An I would rather the bytes go to the
    video rather than the audio.

  8. A disappearing sound channel isnt beta anyway, thats early stage development. Testing typically starts when a product is 30-40% finished, and here its obvious that testing was not started. Serious errors and programming mistakes are ruled out much earlier in a development process.
