  1. I wanted to shrink a blu ray down to fit on a DVD9 using BD Rebuilder. I also managed to burn it onto a DVD9 disc. My problem is this. When I put the movie in my PS3, it wont read as a BDMV file, it says Data Disc. When I go into the BDMV folder and play the "Stream" which is the movie, It starts playing the movie but I cannot hear audio.

When I look in the BD rebuilder log, it says that the audio was not touched, or converted.

Yet when I play it on my PC, I can see the video and hear the audio fine.

What am I doing wrong or what is going on?

    Thank you.

  3. 2.5 UDF? I had the default settings on. I'll check on that right now.

Yes. The settings were correct. I burned a DVD-9 using 2.50, UDF and MODE1/2048

I dont understand why the audio is not even showing up on the PS3.

Have you been keeping your PS3's firmware up-to-date? They've removed at least one method of playing Blu-Ray backups on the PS3 in recent firmware updates, maybe more. It wouldn't surprise me if the PS3 didn't allow you to play Blu-Ray structures on a DVD to some extent, for the same reason (they don't want you making BD backups, after all ).

What kind of audio streams does the movie contain?

You might have to create an AVCHD disc, instead, using MultiAVCHD or another AVCHD-creating program.

  5. I wanted to back up one of my movies which is in blu ray format down to a regular dvd-9 just to test to see if its even possible. The PS3 already plays all the other regular back ups fine. So using image burn for a BD9 wont work on a PS3 huh?

    I'll give MultiAVCHD a try.

  6. Two of my friends have PS3s, dunno what firmware. Neither one will play a *full disc* backup to BD5/9, i.e. with menus and extras intact. (That's what they tell me, I've lent them discs a few times). OTOH, both will play a movie-only backup on BD5/9 (AVCHD). You could try movie-only in BDRB and audio re-encoded to AC3 5.1 (the default setting) and I'll bet it will work.

And just to be sure we're clear on how to burn it, use ImgBurn, selecting from the E-Z Mode Picker "Write Files/Folders to Disc", and copy the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to the project window. Then select the burner, put a DVDR in and burn it.

Are you saying you have to drill down through the directories for the m2ts file? Surely that shouldn't be, although like I say, I don't own a PS3. I should think it would load the movie automatically like any standalone player once it recognizes the disc structure. And I hope I understood you correctly.

    Good luck.

  7. I had IMGBURN do Movie only. Not full back up on a DVD9. When I put the disc in it wont boot. It reads it as a "data" disc and I have to navigate to the BDMV folder to the Stream folder and play it from there. The audio would not work though. The original setting was a DTS audio file which BDRB did not touch. It left it alone no compression.

Again this problem is only with DVD9 I dont have this problem with a BD25.

It does for true avchd discs (my ps3 is fully updated fyi). I make avchds with my hauppauge hd pvr and they operate like any authored disc and will go to the menu if you made one.

I don't have a bluray burner so no experience with that however.

Use tsmuxer or multiavchd and output to avchd, make sure your file is around 7.4 gb to account for overhead, then load the BDMV into imgburn, choose build and start burning.

  12. Yup. It worked! I used Multiavchd to do a AVCHD then burned using Imgburn using the BDMV folder and BAM! IT works on the PS3. DTS sound and everything.

On a side note: Coming from a 20-30g Blu ray down to a DVD9 it looks really good. WAY better than standard DVD. Of course BD25 is way better, but its a nice alternative.

Thats because it is fundamentally different than standard dvd. Different codec and different resolution.

Of course it will not be as good as an authored bd since the space difference is so drastic. But as you mentioned good in a pinch.

I'm surprised that the dts worked for you. I"ve read various posts that dts won't work on avchd. I guess its a hit or miss thing.
