  1. OK, I've backed up numorous dvds that where larger then 4.7 gigs using dvdbackup then dvd2one, this works fine. Now I'm trying to backup a dvd that is 3.5 gigs. I used dvdbackup, this leaves me with VOB files, I tried to import them to toast but it wont let me import to video so I imported to data dvd and the dvd wouldnt play. Anyone know how I can burn this disk. I tried sizzle but it has to reencode the file.

Rip the entire disk with DVDBackup then burn the VIDEO_TS using toast.

  3. Use the "Data" section of Toast on the top, and select "DVD_ROM(UDF)" on the left.

Or use 0SEx: select DVD Image under the format menu, then just burn the image using Disk Copy. Easy

You guys (with exception of tgpo) are missing the point. It sounds like he is not ripping the entire dvd!. its one thing to have .vob's and its another thing to have VIDEO_TS

if you are dropping them into the VIDEO tab of toast 6 you are giong about this all wrong.

to burn a dvd, you need to use DATA and DVD ROM (UDF) mode
but it has to be VIDEO_TS folder that has proper dvd structure for the .vob, .ifo and .bup files

for this 3.5 gig dvd where did it comes from?!
did you back it up or just copy the files over?

  6. Well you're the moderator(and I appreciate your work). He said he had experience with DVD2ONE so he can probably recognize proper file structure for the burn. It sounded to me like he was just selecting the wrong category in Toast 6. (like anybody uses Toast to author DVD's) "Video" is a bit misleading, and I think I made a coaster with it when I upgraded from Toast 5.

    true
after reading, it just sounds like he/she dropped the VIDEO_TS into toasts data window and it loaded a disk as VIDEO_TS with root files being the .vobs

This is a Mac forum... Do as Jazzman says, the DVD ROM (UDF) option is in the 'advanced' options on the left side column, in case you don't see it right away.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

OK I tried to back up the South Park Movie, its 3.7 gigs. Ripped it w/ dvdbackup, then placed all the files in toast unsing dvd rom (udf) when I tried and play it in my dvd player it gave me a disk error. Is there any other prog that will let me rip and copy? I've wasted like 5 dvdrs trying to get this. what is the difference in the files that dvd2one gives me and the files i get from dvdback up, because when i use dvd2one then burn those disk always work.

There is no difference if the VIDEO_TS folder is <4.36 GB. It doesn't change a thing. You could try using MacTheRipper to rip the DVD in Complete Disc mode, and see if it works better than DVDBackup. Also, make sure that you're burning it correctly in Toast. When you set up your DVD in Toast's DVD-ROM (UDF) Data mode, you should see a disc with the title of the DVD, containing the folder VIDEO_TS (along with any other folders and files you manually copied from the original DVD to the DVD folder you made on your hard drive -- optional). When you mount that DVD you burned, you should see at least a folder called VIDEO_TS there, containing all the movie files. There's a sticky at the top of the forum with a good example of how to set up a DVD movie in Toast.

  12. Let's make this simpler. It should look something like this.

if its less than 4.4 gigs, just rip that baby over and burn in toast like you see in the picture.

If your not setting it up like its in the picture, then it wont play right
if your not ripping [and your just option+drag / copying] the dvd over it wont work right either

You have to remove the Desktop DF and Desktop DB files before you burn. These files are created by the OS and are not necessary. Hope this helps.

    You're not burning it correctly.

You have to burn a VIDEO_TS folder, the files can't just be on the root of a dvd.

Desktop DF and Desktop DB files go in there once i start the burn, i dont put them in there. i guess ill just make a Audio and Video folder.

  18. All you have to do is highlight the 2 files and use the - button at the bottom of the Toast window and they will be removed. Then you burn. They should not be recreated by the Mac OS when you do so.

  19. Thanx to all I finally got it, pretty simple really. All I had to do was make a VIDEO_TS folder and not load all the files into the root of the dvdr. Also I used the add button on the bottom of toast. Thanx again

But glad you figured it out..

ALWAYS have the dvd files in thier folders, not as root.
