dvd lab question

hi peeps. i have a serious issue that i can not find an answer to. first of, i'm trying to make a music video dvd using dvd lab, but for some reason, i cant figure out how to make it to skip to the next video when i hit next after compiling the dvd. i end up having to fast forward to the end of the video so that i can get to music video number 2, and the same goes for number 3 and so forth. what exactly do i do to fix this problem? Problem number 2 is also pretty annoing. when i open certain svcd files to demux, and then transcode to dvd standards, i get (cant access the file) (if such file exist check if its not in use). I then am not able to put this file on my dvd. How do i fix this problem?
if anybody can help with these problems, it will be verry much appreciated.

Are you inserting chapter points? If not, you need to set up chapter points at the beginning of each of your video clips.

I've not used DVDLab, so don't know how easy / hard it is. But I do know that it's a breeze in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

where exactly do i put the chapter point, because i tried that and it did not work, unless i did it wrong, and how exactly do i do that on tmpg?

Are your videos separate .mpg files, or are all videos in one big file?
If they are in one big file, then inserting chapter points will fix your problem. Double click on the main movie file in DVD-Lab (just to make it the active window in DVD-lab). You'll notice the preview screen at the bottom right corner has your video in it. The beginning of the movie file is automatically considered Ch. 1, so just scroll through the movie with the slider bar until you find your next chapter point, then click the "Insert Chapter" button in the preview window (looks like a "+" sign). As you add chapters, you'll notice them showing up on the movie window as well (little "+" signs at the top for each one).

If you are using separate .mpg files, DVD-lab should automatically skip to the next one when you hit the "next" button on the remote. I have done these many times before. Are you sure you are not hitting "fast forward" instead of "next?" I know it sounds like a silly question, but I had to ask.

yep they are seperate .mpg files, and yep i have hit next, but only to no luck, what i have to do is, fast forward to the end of my mpg once burned, and only then will it allow me to skip to the next video. i even try to do this on power dvd, once i have compiled it to see the outcome before i burn.

Chapters are created by mpeg2 file (pgc). Just create a single chapter at the end of each video. Thus as you select the next chapter you quickly jump to the end of the current video and on to the next video.

For problem 1) What do you have the videos set to do when each one ends - return to the menu, or continue to the next video? Are you drawing the connections manually from video to video, or just assuming they are done automatically? Is this happening when you play the files on your computer, or after you burn the files to DVD? Are you having DVD-Lab burn the files, or are you burning them with another program?

For problem 2) What program are you using to demux the SVCD files? TMPGEnc?

Well for problem 1, i have tried both ways (return to the menu) & (continue to the next video) and got the same results.
and yes, i draw them manually. i have tried connecting every way that i can think of, wheather it starts at....first play connecting to title then to the movie 1 to movie 2 and so forth to just the movie clips bythemself.

Also i just tried putting a chapter point at the end of the movie, and realized that thats how you skip to the next video, but however, it doesn't allow you to skip backwards. why is that?

well i have been playing with the program some more, and have a new problem now. it seems that when i compile a file, i get no audio. how is this fixed?

Is your sound in ac3 format? And during compiling, did you receive any warning messages?

The way I do it with music vids is to use the connection wizard. Open that up and it will step by step you through the desired actions. First box is "first play". Tick the movie one box then press next. This box asks what you want to do when movie ends. Tick "go to next movie" then press finish. This will work as I`ve got many music DVD`s made this way.

The connection wizard is found by pressing the little arrow next to the icon that looks like a magic wand.

Can`t help you with your audio prob as dvdlab should automatically change the audio of the video to the required setting. You are dragging the audio accross to the movie box as well as the video it take it?

yeah, i drag the audio to the box right under the movie clip box, and yeah, my movies are either ac3 or dolby 192 kb. what i dont understand is, that somtimes the audio plays, and sometimes it doesn't. for instance, i have been playing with the program (trying diffrent things to see what will work) and sometimes i might load 3 or 4 vids, and it will work fine (meaning no audio loss) or sometimes i will load 4 or 5 vids, and will get audio on my first and second vid, but the 3rd and 4th or maybe just the 3rd vid will have no audio. needless to say this is verry dissapointing.
and also i figured out how to skip to the next vid, but cant skip back, how is that fixed?

oh and the warning that i get, is that i mix dvd frames with svcd frames, it says that it might not work on all dvd's.

hey guys this program is a real headache, ive been playing with it for close to a week, and still have produced nothing. i'm shure i'm doing things right. anyways do you guys know of a better program, where i can mix dvd files as well as svcd files together on one disc, complete with chapter points, (menu screen is not really all that important) its just that i need to this already.

I know that authoring dvds can be a headache. Man, I been there before. DVDlab can be problematic at times. Hey, even I have problems with that program, but I have worked around them.
Back to your problem. Have you tried another authoring program such as Tmpgenc DVD Author? Perhaps it might work for you. Much easier program to work with, but does not offer much in terms of menus.

thanks for the advice, i just tried it on dvd shrink, and it worked, but i did notice that on 1 of my dvd players, it wouldn't skip forward or backwards, but yet on another dvd player that i have, it worked fine. Now is there anyway to normalize the audio? because i got some videos on there, that as soon as they come on, i have to lower my audio quite a bit.

Try converting your svcd files to dvd-compliant and see if that does the trick. Not the best solution, I know, but if it gets your project working, it is better than waiting for the perfect fix.

yeah thats what i did, i used nero to make them into dvd files.
