I popped in some movies this evening trying to get an idea for a DVD menu I have been working on.
I put in a SNL best of movie Dan Akroyd to be specific. It had a neat menu and I couldn't figure out how they did it.
The background was a fluid movie animated background. No big deal so far...
On top of the moving background were 3 static pictures of good ole Dan with words underneath that said "Play all", "scenes" and "Extras" Again pretty standard.
The thing that got me was the top picture was in full color the others were dimmed out. When you moved the remote over the middle box it was hilighted and the others were dimmed. It wasn't a simple switched menus as the animation in the back was fluid even with position changes.
I use DVD-Lab pro but not familiar with doing something like this any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Usually, when you select an option on a menu, the choice is highlighted. This menu takes the opposite approach, and shadows the unchosen items. It is easy to do.

Create your video, including the stills and text, in your NLE. import this as your menu background. Draw a box over each still, and match the text under each still. Select the text, and while holding down the shift key, select the box above it. Click on Menu -> Create -> Combo Button. Click Yes and OK. Repeat for each button you need to create.

Now the clever part. Click on the Map tab on the Properties sheet (to the right of the screen). Set the colour for the Normal state to black, and move the sliders to about 60%. Move the state to Selected, and move the sliders to 0. Finally, set the state to Selected and set whatever colour you want.

When you test this, you should find that the button with focus has full colour, and the buttons without focus are dulled. You can vary the way they appear and the amount of dullness by varying the colour and % of the Normal state.
