It appears there are compatability issues on the horizon for older 1x and 2x DVD-RW burners with new 4X disks.

Early adopters of the format get shafted yet again !
By the way, I didn't intend to start yet another format flame.
I just felt I should point this problem out to people with older burners.
I use a dual format burner and am quite happy with both "+" and "-" disks and have no preference over either. In fact I mainly use 4x DVD-R disks as they're currently cheaper.

    Ah !
Not been reading the posts here for a while.
Still, it won't do any harm to raise the issue again in case some people missed it first time round.
I'm surprised their hasn't been more response to this subject though.

Well, when you get right down to it, CD-RW's have the same problem. The "high-speed" media designed to work in 4X-10X drives won't work in the older "low-speed" drives that max out at 4X, which is why they still make the two different types. I've also heard reports that modern 40X-and-above CD-R media can be problematic in older <10X -R drives.

So as fodder for the plus-vs.-dash wars, it's not all that great of an issue, since we've been dealing with this kind of problem for a long time in the CD-R world now.
