  1. Hi,

I am trying to make a DVD. I am using TMPGENC with the DVD (NTSC) template.
Frame Rate: 23.976 (internally 29.97 fps)
    Constant Bitrate (CBR)
    3:2 Pulldown When playback
    DC Component Precision: 9 bits
Motion Search Precision: Motion Estimate Search (fast)

The result was a video that seemed like it was missing frames for a few seconds every minute or so. The original is perfectly smooth.
Is there a way to fix this without having to use CCE or another encoder?
    Thx.

Yes we need to know all you can tell us about the source ... off the top of my head it sounds like an improper PAL to NTSC conversion problem.

  4. I bet it gets worse when the movie has run about an hour or so, am I right ?! My settings were the same as yours, but it still cuts a frame, not that it's extremely annoying, but it's just not smooth enough.

I have struggled with TMPGenc and switched to MainConcept that does the same thing in 1/3 of the time (3 hours 15 minutes became 1 hour in MainConcept), with the excact same quality and without the choppy/lagging annoying thing.

You should really give MainConcept a try

  5. the original is an XviD video at 23.976 fps with AC3 audio. I know 23.976 is not a standard frame rate for DVDs so it appears that I need to use 3:2 pulldown. I did that on TMPGENC but it resulted in choppy playback every minute or so for a few seconds. Yes, it does seem worse at the end of the video.
I plan to encode it again without using 3:2 pulldown then use pulldown.exe on the m2v file.

  6. Oh yea I forgot. If I don't choose 3:2 pulldown, I'll have to choose Interlace or Non-Interlace. What does that mean and which one should i choose?
    I'll also give MainConcept a try :P
