Hi all, I've got a problem. I have a movie that is split over 2 DVD's and I'm trying to downsize it so that it'll fit onto one disc. I'm trying to do it with DVD2oneX, version 1.3.0 but I'm having no joy at all. The DVD's are 4.2 and 3.9 GB's respectfully but I don't think that's relevant. I'm trying to do it using DVD2oneX (as I said) but I'm getting errors. I want to downsize both parts to 2.2 or 2.15 GB but DVD2oneX is giving me errors. I've used this function of DVD2oneX before (to backup my copy of Goodfellas (2 sided)) and it's worked like a dream. I'm getting 2 dialog boxes that say 'For full diskcopy you need to copy all files from the DVD in file mode.' and 'Unable to allocate memory for file buffer.' I've also tried using the demo version of DVDRemaster v1.3.0 and it doesn't want to know either. Anybody have any ideas? I'd appreciate it so much.

this movie thats been split? where did it come from.
it sounds like dvd2one is thinking its not a complete dvd since its been split? thats my best guess

are you just wanting movie only? if so you can just pull the movie files and compile them with something like Sizzle and then have it build you a new complete VIDEO_TS fodler which can then be crunched through dvd2one to resize its output.

the only way the JOIN feature isnt working is if they VIDEO_TS of each dvd you are joining is not complete [ie a whole dvd] which is often the case with split dvds!

Try a forum search for exact instructions, but I think it involves using DVD2OneX on each disc first, setting the size to about 2.15 GB in film mode. Then, once you have both halves of the movie shrunk down, you use the join function, and add all the cells from the 2nd half to those of the first half.

I have had success doing 2 seperate movies each full dvd9s where it JOINS the movie only's into one single dvd5 no problems

I think however if you "aquire" a split dvd where it has working menu for both disks, but only 1/2 of the files of the origional dvd dvd2one botches up

is this dvd in question one of those?

but why on earth would u want to put 2 movies on one 4.3 gig dvd.. i mean especially if either dvd is over 4.3 gigs already.. the quality would be TERRIBLE (edit.. sorry didnt fully read original post didnt realize it was a movie split to two dvds.. the quality will still probably suck pretty bad)

    actually you would be surprised!
i remember backing up pearl harbor way back when... it was 2 dvd's that I compressed to one dvd [ manually mind you, the join feature was not out then]

the quality comparison to any dvd9-5 is strickingly high

    mind you its not perfect
but its well beyond SVCD range

I'm wondering if perhaps the .BUP and .IFO files are somehow corrupt. I remember reading a while ago that I can re-create them by using VPC & Ifoedit. Would it be worth attempting this?

Sorry that I didn't reply for a while to this but I've been up to some other things. I tried all kinds of methods with this problematic movie (including trying to feed the .VOB files to Sizzle (it spat them out), using VPC and IfoEdit to create new .IFO & .BUP files (no good)) and have eventually trashed the source.

I think Sizzle needs the demuxed m2v and ac3 streams. You can use something like Extractor (mirror) to get the individual streams from the VOB files.

  10. If you can rip the movies with DVD backup or something similar you can use DVD2One version 1.2.1 ( Faster than 1.3.0 ) to shrink both halves to 2.2gb and then join with DVD2One. Does DVDPlayer play them without a problem and can you use the forward chapter button?

Yes, DVD Player would play them OK and select chapters but the source has been binned anyway now so it doesn't matter anymore. Thanks anyway.
