Problem burning with Plextor PX-708UF

What I want to know now is how to figure out if my computer recognizes the external DVD writer?

First of all, it says "Please insert Blank Disc" so I insert it into the disc drive (of the external DW) and it continues to say "Please Insert..." So I was thinking that I may not have actually installed it to my PC, because I did not go through any installation programs. The only installation of the Disc writer was plugging everything in.

What do you think is going on? Thanks in advance!

Need more information like what are you're computer specs and what operating system are you using? Is there a installation CD that came with the burner? If there is then go ahead and install it. If not look below:

Windows 98 go to control panel>click on system>device manager> then look to see if the external dvd burner is there.

Windows 2000 pro go to control panel>click on system>click on hardware tab> device manager> then look if the external dvd burner is there.
