  1. Hello all,

I am trying to backup Schindler's List with DVDshrink (tried versions 2.3, 3.1, 3.1.b5) c SonyDRu500A drive and am getting the following error message: CdvdCSS Read failed data error (cyclic rendundancy check); I have also tried DVDdecryptor 3.2.0.0 using decrypt all files and also get an error message. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or any suggestions?

    thanks,

  2. I was getting these same errors last night and couldn't back up my copy of road trip using shrink or decrypter. I'm not sure what causing it maybe just burn errors when the movie was created but I think I figured a way around it. I installed smartripper and had to copy the dll for an aspi layer into the directory which I created for smartripper otherwise it would tell me that I had no aspi layer installed. The first time I tried tried ripping it gave me an error about 2/3 of the way through and said that one of the vobs was still locked. In order to get around this all I had to do was play the movie with media player and then run smartripper while the movie was playing. No errors at all and smartripper was able to read all of the movie files. Give this a try and see if it works for you, I think it should. You'll still have to use another program to reencode the hard disk files that smartripper creates but I think this will get around the errors you were getting before.

  3. Well I think that last post was a little premature. Smartripper is freezing at the same spot that decrypter was. I'll post if I figure out something that will work or a way around this problem.

If anyone knows a way around ripping a disc with a burn error on the original any help would be appreciated.

i have had the same problem in the past with several discs (cheap media).
i managed to save a few of them with DVDX Rescue.
DVD Decrypter, Shrink... and all the others kept giving me CRC errors.

  5. Try copying to your HDD with your Burner, instead of your DVD-ROM ... this can sometimes be more tolerant.

If this doesn't work, try copy/pasting the files in the VIDEO_TS folder to a new folder on your desktop and find out what file is unreadable. You may be lucky and find it's only an ifo or bup file that is corrupt. If so these are just copies of each other and it's dead simple to just create a new one, by renaming.

Having said that if the CRC is a vob file or on more than one file .... you are pretty much stuffed.
