  1. I would like to capture video live using 2 cameras going to my video capture device, going live to my computer.
Can someone give me some good advice on what other hardware I will need? Please be specific as to name, model, and most of all an approximate cost.
    Thanks, and may God bless,
    Dwight

  5. On any TV show, for instance the news, they always use at least 2 and usually 4 or 5 cameras for different views, different people, etc. I would like to use 2 cameras for some educational videos I want to shoot. They would both be hooked to my capture device, but I don't know how to switch from camera 1 to camera 2 with a clean switch.
My capture device would be hooked to the computer, which would be taping the video in real time.

    May God bless,
    Dwight

  6. I would first capture them then edit with Premiere or Studio 8. But that's me.

dwight55, take a look at this link for budget video switching. http://www.videouniversity.com/switch.htm Sounds similar to what you are looking for. You might think twice when you see how much a "budget" switching system can cost.

Yes, note that with two cameras you'll have two different timebases. While they both put out roughly 30 FPS they aren't on the same clock, so you'll get terrible switches without external reference driving one or both cameras.

The usual cheap method is to film both, and then edit later. Studios have some equipment that you probably don't want to pay for to do this on the fly.

On the other hand if you're good with electronics and go inside a couple of cameras, you could probably work up something to drive both by the same clock. But with all the possible timing differences and them often not being designed for this, it may or may not be enough to work even with a common high speed clock. You still have to have some way to lock their low speed video timing together, but that may be possible by just resetting both at the same time etc with a common high speed clock.
