most new cameras don't require software other than what comes with it. what make/model are you referring to?

to create a dvd you need to edit/author the video. or use an all-in-one packege like convertxtodvd or avstodvd.

I'm not sure on the model since I'm doing this for a friend. But the software that came with it is junk. I was thinking Magix, Sony Vegas or Corel.

Sorry, I didn't say I had the camera or software, I was just getting a head start, But he said it was taking forever to fiqure the software out, Which I'm sure most of the time it is junk software they bundle with cameras.

    HD camcorders/cameras differ:

HDV transfers over IEEE-1394 Firewire. Capture software HDVSplit

AVCHD cameras record to flash cards or hard disk. Normally you add a compatible flash ram card reader to the PC. Alternate is to capture via USB2 with included software.

DVD is SD 720x480 so if you capture HD, you need software to down scale to SD for DVD. Why do you want DVD? Alternate is Blu-Ray disc, AVCHD disc or web distribution.

If you buy a non-standard HD format you generally are tied to the proprietary software from the camera manufacturer. For most people this is a trap.

I was at his house the other week and was messing around with the movie camera and got the movies transferd to his computer which wasn't to hard, But had a rough time trying to get them seperated to pick out which one's he wanted to save and format to copy to a dvd to play in a standard dvd player so he can send movies of his son wrestling to his uncle, I finally got one converted over using Convertxtodvd but I was just looking for an easier way to do this.

really easy to use. create an account. when you first start uploading videos you may have a 15 minute limit, but if you don't break any of their rules it will be removed.

for your first test try selecting a short video from your cam and uploading it, it's about that easy now. you can either choose to make them public or private(only those you give the url to can view them).

aedipuss,Thanks! But I would rather have some kind of software to do this on my own, Like I said, Transfer from camera to hard drive then burn to a dvd or a blu-ray, I'm sure there is software for this.

sure there are editing programs. personally i use vegas pro 11 for most of my HD and SD work. premiere pro, fcpx or edius would also work. transfer avchd cam video over usb to your hard drive, or capture HDV with hdvsplit. then drag them into the editor. convert to standard def mpeg-2 for dvd or blu-ray compatible files.

for free it's a lot harder. editing would be limited to basic cutting for the most part if you can find something that handles your hd cam files and then loading the output into a program like avstodvd for dvds or maybe avchdcoder for blu-ray.

    Tarzan54,

You might want to consider TMPGEnc Authoring Works. If you are going to be doing a lot of this sort of think, and you are new to DVD creation, this would be a great choice. Now keep in mind, it's $100. Well worth the expense consideingr all it will do. Features include: downloading from your camera HD and SD, captioning, subtitles, chapters, transitions, editing, burning plus much more.

I have been using the trial version with my new Sony HDD digital camera and am more than pleased with the results. Purchasing soon.

There is no comments here at Video Help from the Tools section. Give the Trial a try and report back

    Good luck

Thanks everyone! I checked the reviews of the software that everyone recommended and they all seem to have their own good qualifications, HDVSplit and TMPGEnc Authoring Works seem to be the easiest for what I want to do, But the more I get into it I will go with one of the more advanced programs.
